Place central venous catheters with confidence with Vygon Combcard
The Vygon Combcard is an ECG connection cable for fast, simple and precise placement of central venous catheters using the Seldinger technique.
This connection cable a cable allows ECG guidance to confirm accurate central venous catheter tip positioning through the guidewire.
Choose Vygon Combcard for your CVC placement by ECG tip location for patient, departmental and Trust-wide benefits:
- Promote good practice
- Fast, simple and precise placement
- Greater accuracy and efficiency of the procedure
- Reduce requirements for immediate post-procedure, pre-use X-rays
- Immediate use for drug infusions
- Minimise insertion risks
- Increase patient safety with a reduced risk of guidewire retention
CVC Compatibility
Vygon Combcard is compatible with all Vygon central venous catheters. Other brands may also be compatible – please check with your Vygon representative.
Using ECG Guidance for central line catheter tip placement
The basic principle of the ECG method is that the position of the tip inside the venous system can be detected by using the catheter itself (or a guidewire inside the catheter) as an endovascular electrode, which replaces the “red” or “right shoulder” electrode of the standard surface ECG.
When the tip of the central venous catheter reaches the superior vena cava and advances towards the right atrium, the P-wave gains in amplitude. When the P-wave is at half of the QRS wave or at its highest amplitude, without being biphasic (the P-wave must show no negative feature which would indicate that the catheter is within the right atrium and must be slightly withdrawn), the catheter is in the correct position.
The waveforms are generated at the tip of the central venous catheter via the guidewire which are captured in real time through the combcard adaptor and displayed on your ECG monitor.
